Sheets To Curtains

I am so thrilled with how this turned out. First of all my lighting in my house is really odd. It's so hot here that they tint the windows which sets off a weird color, second I have direct light coming from both directions so unless I photograph right in the middle of my living room the light is harsh. When we moved in we had no window treatment that were usable, and they are a fortune. I like the look of something or bare windows if there is molding. I can appreciate formal curtains but they are not my style. I came up with using bed sheets after seeing this somewhere. I measured my windows and knew I had to get something really big. Target to the rescue!! I bought 3 King flat sheets and simply cut them in half to fill in my dining area. Don't look close but I did not even sew the ends. I will get to it but just haven't had a chance to get the dreaded sewing machine out. I have a love hate with the sewing machine if you know me. Just recently my Roomba sucked up a bunch of thread, it was not pretty but it brought back memories of the tangled web of being not skilled on a sewing machine.
We bought some Bamboo shades to warm up the area, in person it looks much better.
I did iron these first and used really sharp scissors and cut it right in two.
At night you get a better look without the harsh light. It turned out just like I wanted. I love the laid back coastal look. I love this project because I just used rods and clips and and everything just came together so easy and non fussy.
When I had a few of my friends over they could not believe that they were sheets, and loved the idea. Less then $10 a panel on long curtains!

Shower Curtain Roman Shade

This was a fun little project. I have this huge window in my bathroom. It has those square glass cubes for light and privacy. I don't love the look but not really sure what else you would choose on a ground floor bathroom. While shopping at Target I came across this shower curtain, it's the most gorgeous color. It's that beautiful gray/blue spa color that I just love. I thought I could do something with it and it was on clearance and the previous treatment below was horrendous. I will do a post about some of my lovely treatments throughout my house when we moved in.
It worked out really well by leaving this wood  piece to hold the shower curtain. This is totally the wrong way to do a window treatment but to me if it looks good so who cares. I also like the idea if I change my mind down the road I still have a pretty shower curtain (: boy I am practical. I just tucked it in there and pulled in the sides so no sewing BONUS!! I bought two adjustable curtain rods and made a faux roman shade. Not to formal but just enough. If you make one you can add the rods where you like and make as many folds as you like as you can see in my picture below.
Found this amazing chandelier on Overstock. This bathroom was very plain and it needed something. I bought a conversion kit for the recessed light so I could add something pretty. The chandelier took forever to put together but was only $140 and comes with real crystals. The candles were a horrible fakey orange color but that was a easy spray paint fix.

Not to bad, I also added some plates. I am liking this bathroom. I would love to remove the tile and get new counters but not anytime soon. Hope you enjoyed my fake roman shade shower curtain tutorial.

Fireworks The Beach And A Party

Happy 4th!! Oh my we had fun, our first year in TX for this fun event. My mom flew in on Wednesday but got sick right when she got her thankfully it only lasted a couple days but we still made the fireworks. They were great! Look how cute my mom's nails are, she is always festive.
Getting ready!! We met our good friends Yesi and her family for snacks and the fireworks.

We took my mom to Buc-ee's which is a awesome place if you have never been. It's a gas station with beach stuff, convent store items, clothes, they actually have nice home decorating things too

We drove down to Galveston for the day to show my mom everything.

Getting ready for Lauren's Birthday Party. She loves to help and she did a excellent job with Nana. I made these little cups with the bears, thank you Pinterest!!

Summer parties are always hard because everyone is busy and Lauren's birthday is July 3rd so busy times but we had a great turnout. She had a pool party, with a beach theme and a few prized elephants.

Of course no party would be complete without Lauren's big brothers
Lauren's birthday gift was that basketball hoop. She loves basketball now, hasn't asked about tennis. She can't wait for me to sign her up, she is pretty good for 7 already. We are getting ready for the Piñata, my friend Yesi had it made for her and it was enormous.
Some of the nice ladies I have been meeting in TX
What a fun week. I wish my mom could stay forever. It's hard with no family and living so far away. We are meeting new people and it's feeling more like home but I miss my friends and family that is for sure. Lauren sure had fun, she looked like a Zombie when she went to bed that night, so tired.

Summer Fun

So far the summer has been flying by. I have not kept up on my blogging which I hate because down the road I love to look back on our adventures and remember what funny things and milestones the kids have gone through. We have been to numerous parties, we swim most days and this week I bought some stuff from the Lakeshore store which I highly recommend, such a great store to brush up on school work. Fun times in that area but I don't want the kids to be rusty next year since last year they changed schools so many times. My mom made a surprise visit and came and visited the kids last week we had a blast. Each day goes by so fast. The first week off the kids had VBS and then I finished painting more rooms in the house, almost done. Here is a little glimpse of summer.

Beach day in Galveston, I hate that seaweed but it's still a beach so I can't complain.
 VBS fun

Each day is filled with numerous funny moments. My kids love to laugh and be silly oh and me too!!

It's so pretty where we live in TX. We sometimes just go shopping or looking and enjoy the weather and getting out of the house. Drew is being goofy, he has a huge gap in his teeth because he had to get a palate expander due to crowding. It worked within a couple weeks, next month he is getting braces on just the top. He has been a good sport about it all.

Lots of pool time, the pool is wonderful. The water is really warm right now it feels like bath water.

 Lauren's birthday last week

She loves her daddy, and he loves her!
 More pictures to come soon
