My parents visit

I love this picture of the kids with my parents. We had such a nice time over spring break. I was able to show my parents around town and my dad helped get some projects done with Rob. It was a great time, and I miss them already.

Drew and Grandpa got some football throwing in of course
I knew this was going to happen

I love to see the kids play, it was a nice warm day.

Another cute one and then being silly

My mom and me, I miss her so much.

When did kids activities become so over the top?

This topic has been on my mind for a long time now but most recently it reared it ugly head. I don't think I need to explain the admiration I have for my children, they are simply my joy. Lately my joy has been sucked dry with activities, school projects, and much more. I was thinking back to when I was a kid. I loved Gymnastics, I did cartwheels, back flips you name it wherever I went. I played outside each day after school, we ate dinner together, I went to Gymnastics one day a week for one hour when I was in elementary school. It seemed more simple that is for sure. Now I feel tired, I feel pressure, I feel like what if I don't get my kids involved with something each season?? It's very odd. I guess it's my over indulgence to provide them this great life and to try to make them enjoy each experience. I miss eating dinner as a family, I miss my kids just playing outside. We are always on the go and I miss when the kids were younger and we all ate together and had more time. Maybe this is normal and I think it is in my stage in parenting but is it what is good for my kids?  For instance in the picture above Jaden and Lauren don't play baseball but they have to cheer their brother on. They don't really enjoy it but it's what we do as a family. Baseball is a wonderful sport, I after all married a baseball player. This season thankfully we have a really nice coach and the kids are nice but it's demanding. We have lots of practice, and late. Some games are not over till almost 10:00 on school nights!! Our team is good and undefeated and I enjoy watching the kids play but when did this all became so intense? Every activity is not just something kids do for fun but they are priming them for the next level like they are going to be in the MLB or something. My husband is a good guy but he is even telling me if they take time off or they don't practice everyone will pass them up. I always come back with in the 3rd grade, really?  These kids are good but sometimes I know my boy just wants to boy and unwind and have free time. School is demanding enough but as soon as he gets home and gets a snack and does homework it's off to a 3hr practice. We are so torn because we want to teach him to be responsible, good worth ethic, hard work=results but then I always think geez he's 9 why do we expect so much? Sports used to be a thing kids liked to do and then they would change sports with the seasons and that is not the case anymore. Every activity is full throttle and so intense now heaven forbid you take a season off or try something new, doesn't happen.  It's not just sports it's all activities and clubs. I took Jaden to Boy Scouts last night he seemed to like it okay. He was in Cub Scouts in PA but here he moved up to Boy Scouts which opens up a whole can of worms. I was informed that not only is it once a week but throughout the month there are special events he must attend and camp outs each month all year round. The camp out directions were you drop him off on Friday and you get him Sunday afternoon?? Wait he is 11 and I barely see him during the week and now he will be gone the whole weekend? Oh and we are going to Colorado in July for a whole week no moms can attend??? I know I am a helicopter parent but my kids have never been away from me for a whole week expect for a short getaway weekend. I am sure they are all nice great people and they were friendly enough but at that point I would have only known these people for 4months. I can't just hop in the car if he breaks his leg or something either. So after taking Drew to baseball through busy traffic, and then going to Boy Scouts and pulling into the driveway at 9:00 last night Jaden seems completely overwhelmed. At this point we ate a light dinner so everyone is hungry again, barley got homework done since I had to drop Drew off at 5:00 through major traffic and here we all are tired. Meanwhile Rob pulls in with Drew after his 3 hr practice all sweaty and full of allergies. Jaden comes in and says that he feels more stressed and he misses us already and doesn't get to see us so he doesn't think he wants to be away from us all the time. I am a bit relieved and of course I would do it if he loved it. So saying all this are we doing any favors for our children with this overindulgent work load of activities? Maybe I am simple, I love to watch Drew play ball and I am thankful he can but I miss and desire the moments of family time. When we are done with baseball I am hoping things slow down a bit as far as never being home. I miss family dinners it's feels so weird not to eat together much anymore. I often wonder if going to practice will be in their minds as adults or more importantly that they had family time and memories. I sure hope that I install that family comes first and that building good charter and knowing God is my biggest desire for each of them. I am praying that I can discern when to say yes and when to say no and help make good choices for them. This running around, activities all the time, answering texts all hours of the day for work, and crazy life will take us all down if we don't get it in check.
I love you Jaden, Drew and Lauren. Mom's trying!!

Accessories and my sitting room

I'm having fun decorating the new house. It's amazing how some things just don't look good in a new space or how other things just work. Lighting is so huge and scale of room. My new house has the much taller ceilings and open so things look much smaller .So I need to bring some height in and get some different size decorations.
 Love my oyster shells

Found this pillow at Stein Mart, I could not believe it. I love it $12!!
I am really into these glass lamps lately they are so pretty. I won this one off of a blog a while back and recently bought a small one at Target with the perfect shade of blue.
My paint color looks great in these picture but unfortunately in real life it's pink beige. I love this heron print. I happened to be in Kirkland's it was on clearance from last summer $12!!It's huge too so it fills a wall.
Here is the back of my couch I found on Craigslist for $300. It was listed as Ballard Designs. I'm not sure if is just Ballard's fabric or a actual Ballard's couch. None the less it's so cute and a great size for a sitting room. I think it was well worth the money and it's in perfect shape.
I almost recycled this big heavy thesaurus, after all who uses these anymore when we all just use our computers. Then I got to thinking I think it's good for my kids to know how to look stuff up and then decided to paint it. When the kids need it if ever we can pull it right of the shelf.  A little cream spray paint and glaze and now it looks great and is useful.
It added that height I needed
I don't have a before picture but the pantry had a cheap ball light that was so dim. I happened to hang onto this chandelier that I have moved several times through the years. In PA it was sitting in my basement. I am so glad I hung onto it, it looks great!! I painted the walls Silver Sage too.
This buffet has moved 3x since I have owned it and I originally bought it for $20 off of craigslist years ago. It has two broken legs but it's still standing. I had it in my basement of my PA house and it was black. I custom painted it gray and white with about 3-4 different colors. Now it looks good until I find some sort of new wall unit. I like it for now, it works.

I like this non formal space it is to the right when you walk in my front door.
My stairs are still being worked on can't wait to share.

I love paint... my office

Hi friends, so much going on here. We had a great visit with my parents and we were all sad to see them go. I will post our pictures soon. I know everyone is busy in this world but it is crazy at times. With moving and remodeling going on that puts a fun twist on things let alone normal stress. I have read a few articles lately about parents being over the top with projects and school parties. School is defiantly more fun then when I was a kid. Lauren loves holidays and this week she even put out a snack for the leprechaun so of course he had to leave her a treat and note. Then both boys had major projects due last week before spring break so that was fun. Life is good though and I am trying to take each day as a gift.
Onto the house!!! I really could not take this office another day to be honest..The color caused me deep anxiety and every time I walked into the room my thought went to "I hate this color"
The funny thing is a long time ago this was a great color or was it ever, ha ha!! I actually painted my office this color in my old house back in 2006 it was bad back then and only lasted a year. I was in a Panera Bread color phase. Dear lord who would ever think olive poop green was good, apparently I did at one time.

Can you believe this? I absolutely love paint colors and if truth be told I study them for hours before I make a decision. I really love paint!! I love this color!!! It's Silver Stand by Sherwin Williams. I am totally impressed with their paint too. With a coupon it is comparable to any other paint. It went on so smooth did not drip and had great coverage. I can finally relax I found the perfect shade of blue/gray.
It makes the molding just pop

I love this bird painting. It's really it just a piece of paper with birds on it I bought from a framing and art store for $4. I happened to have a frame and I just used spray adhesive and put it right on a existing frame with no glass just a cream colored matting. It worked great.
My mom and I went and visited Laurie's while she was here and right outside on clearance she has these lamps for $50 a piece you can see the original price below. They are so heavy and nice. I do need to open up the bottom and clean the glass it seems some dust got in there hence the great price. I was so happy thought because they are so me.
I have so much to share!! We have a big renovation going on with our stairs so excited for the final outcome. It is going to look so beautiful!!

A new day

Thanks for the nice comments about Lauren and for praying for Drew. I'm thankful to say he is doing much better the last two days!! THANK YOU for praying!! Wednesday he went to Children's for his medicine and it must have kicked in because he is not in pain anymore and is acting normal. While we were there we were saw Bill and Will from the Little Couple. Jen works at Texas Children's and we happened to be in the same area. Drew loves the show, they are both remarkable nice people. Bill came right up to Drew to talk to him, super nice guy and Will is darling.
Today my parents are coming to visit us for the whole week over spring break. We are looking forward to doing some fun things and my dad is going to help us with a few projects. I wanted to have a nice welcome when they arrived so late last night I whipped up some quick and easy wreaths. I love grapevine wreaths. They are so easy to put together when you attach stems and greenery plus they are so inexpensive. I already had some hydrangeas in my stockpile and a nest. I also planted my beloved topiaries. These things have been through 3 moves now and still doing okay. Some of the greens has been picked away due to weather so I just added a little moss and all is well. I bought these at Lowe's on clearance years ago for like $30 a piece. They are nice outdoor topiaries so they have really lasted.
My doors look decent in the picture but I really want my paned doors so we will see (:
I'm really happy with my porch and landscaping on my house. I don't really need to do any landscaping expect flowers. I did have someone trim our palm trees yesterday that was neat to watch.
Have a great Saturday everyone!

Bringing you some sunshine, I sure need it

Lauren is hamming it up here in these pictures but I thought they were cute. Looking at these makes me happy. It's been a long week of getting the house together and Drew has been having some issue with his Crohn's again. Not really sure what's going on but we are working with his Dr on a plan. It really stinks!! Can I tell you all how bad chronic illness is? I don't want to be depressing but it's a constant feeling of never knowing when the rug is going to be pulled out under your feet. You know it's coming back but you never know when. It's been a trial that is for sure. I have been trying to learn how to deal with it and keep my sanity and health in check because it is so stressful. I already have anxiety so when this "stuff" happens it puts me in overdrive. The fear of the unknown and also the fear that I am not being the parent I need to be to my other children is a lot to handle. I did find a support website with other moms and that does seem to help. What I have learned is that I never want to take health for granted. If you have your health you have everything. Also I have no control over any of this even if I wanted to, I don't. God has a plan in the good and bad and nothing is a surprise to Him. When there is no answers or miracles I have to keep my faith that God has a bigger plan and purpose for my son's life.  I read a quote recently that said "our eyes need to be washed by our tears so we can see life with a clearer view" That's true. It's so easy to get caught up in the everyday things that we forget what is really important until it stops us in our tracks and it takes us back to what is most important. I'm hoping that things improve in the next few days and we can get over this hump. I ask... friends and family please pray for Drew it means so much to me!!
