office sneak peak

The changes are coming and I am loving it. It is starting to feel like our home. Each week I like to tackle at least one project. When I am all done I can go back to a little relaxing and projects here and there. This wallpaper came off very nice unlike the mudroom area. I could not decide what to do with the book shelves but decided stay with the darker wood. Sometimes when you paint wood and you use it a lot without lots of polyurethane it still chips. Rob uses his office about 3 days a week so it had to be durable. I love white but I figured the dark would not show dirt and I love mixing dark wood and white together. All the molding took a long time but I am happy how it all turned out. I will post more pictures soon when I actually clean it and decorate it up a bit more.
I can't tell you how great it feels to rip down 80's wallpaper

I love this stain! This is one of my favorite stains ever!! It is so nice because it goes on like a gel. You can use it thinner or thicker. It makes any pieces of old furniture look fresh again. It is a pain to get off your hands but I have found that orange oil or Goo Gone works well to get it off the skin. I will never be a poster child for nice nails. I see so many girls with pretty nails and It will not work out for me and all my endeavours I am afraid.

Still messy but much better!!

Things have been crazy here. We are working on re-doing our whole kitchen. What a project!! I have meet with so many different people and have looked at so many pictures. Next week I have another appointment so I will blog about some of the plans. I am hoping things start to come together and we can find a design we just love.

Have a great weekend!!

Having Fun inside and out

It finally snowed a few days ago. The kids of course had lots of fun playing in it. We have a built in hill, yeah! Our old house had one too,but this one is even better.
She is adorable!

Boys are good for the soul, they make me laugh each day numerous times.

Pretty Brown Eyes!

There is my husband! It is fun to be a kid again. We both love to play with our kids when we are outside.

There goes Drew

The kids were off from school last week a couple days so I put them to work. They actually loved pulling off the wallpaper. Lauren actually got to spray her water bottle squirt gun inside, she was in heaven. They really helped me a lot. This wallpaper stuck big time, not fun.

Remember how popular this style of wallpaper was?

This week I worked on Rob's office. Can't wait to post pictures!! I just knew this house would be our dream house when we first looked at it. It is so fun to bring this to fruition but lots of work. I am enjoying all of it but it is a hard balance of doing renovations and being the best mom I can be. I try and spend 30 min playing with Lauren every couple yrs during the day. I also work as she plays or watches a movie. I also stay up late at night to get the most work done but I can't do that to many days in a row or I become mean mom, lol. The kids have been really good through everything and adjusting well.

A little bit like work

I am alive and survived the family room makeover. Just like any project I started with a whole bunch of energy and by the end I had enough...This was one of the biggest projects I have ever done that involved lots of labor. I am starting with some pretties, this room is our beach room. Most of the house I am going to be doing in a coastal farmhouse style but this going to be really beachy. I have had this piece of coral for years, and it fit perfect in my cloche.
This farmhouse table was bought from a roadside flea market for $10 I think. It used to be a red shade, but a couple years ago it got a new color. I love these baskets from Smith and Hawkin (Target) These baskets are great, they are so durable for anything really. I bought this shelf at a yard sale this past summer and love it!

Collection of shells, and favorite bird lamp.

My beautiful rock wall. This section was taken down by yours truly. It came out rather easily until there was a metal mesh net pinned to the wall. Ugly!! This was so messy and some of this grout stuff got on the carpet, and it stains bad. I had to get my trusty Hoover wet vac out, whoever made that thing= I love you!!

? Your guess is as good as mine. A little castle in the rocks? We are thinking it was a ledge and they had to fill it in. I have no clue, this whole rock wall thing is not original to the house. I wish I could have seen the original. It probably was way better. I still have no idea what to do with the remaining rock wall we left. I don't know if I should paint it, stain it or get rid of it. I will need a pick up truck to take all the rocks away and lots of therapy. We still don't know what we are going to do for now we are leaving it.

My parent came for the night and my dad helped Rob hang the dry wall. It turned out really nice. We still need to get some finishing pieces but so much better.

BEFORE:

My mom is in the background. She helped prime some of the beams and I appreciate the help. The priming was such a pain!! I didn't mind the beams but they were really dark. The whole room looked dark and dated.

AFTER:

So much better!! I am so happy with the lighter brighter look of this room. We are working with the rock wall for now. If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. It looks kind of good and is do-able with the rest of the room. The painting took forever! Not the wall color but the beams. I had to coat the room with two coats of Gripper primmer. Up and down on a ladder with my arms reaching up. Yes, feel sorry for me): Once that was done, I painted it all white. Then I had to buy caulk to fill the lines between the beam and wall. You could really see spaces between the joints, it looked very rough and not fresh. So I bought caulk and put it in the gun and it kept exploding out the back. During this project Rob was in Texas and I was up until midnight doing the project. I worked day and night having little Lauren by my side. She was really good, We watched a couple movies while I worked that helped. After I used my finger to spread the caulk in the joints I had enough. When I talked to Rob later he asks if I broke the seal in the caulk gun with a screwdriver. Nope, I learned the hard way. I cut the tip but could not figure out why the seal was in there, FYI the back does not have instructions to break the seal. Up and down off the ladder a million times later, I caulked all the cracks, and then painted again!! The wall color is Sherwin Williams Relaxed Khaki, and I love it!! It is a great color. I am so happy with it.

I also painted the windows white, what a huge difference white windows make. Windows are not to bad to paint because you don't need to tape. Just use a razor blade on the glass.

I finally ordered our family beach picture to go right there above this cabinet.

It was a lot of work, but so glad it all turned out. It all took much longer then I thought. It took me about week to complete this. I need a little breather and then I will be onto the next project.

Inside pictures and a ways to go!!

Hello friends! Wow things are coming together but we have so much more to do. I think all of this will take a long time but I plan on having fun with all of it. Honestly I do get a lot of anxiety with everything being awry but I am trying to take it day by day. I think the Lord is trying to teach me to relax a bit and don't they use exposure therapy when people need to get through phobias and anxiety? Ha Ha!! I wish I could just relax at times. I think I was born a high energy person that has trouble sitting still but I don't seem to have the AD part which I thankful for. I have never moved into a house that needed major renovations just small stuff like paint. This is going to be a great challenge for Rob and I. We are going to get some help though. Some of this stuff is way to big of a project for beginners. I can't wait to blog about all our projects. The house is completely livable and clean so that is a bonus just needs lots of updates. I wanted to share a few pictures of the before stages. A few rooms just need new carpet/wood and painting so we can do those fairly quickly. The kitchen and bathrooms need gutted and we will do little by little. I am hoping by next year we will have the major renovations done and then just do fun projects from there on out. It will be nice to get back to normal again but it is also fun to see projects come into fruition.

Family Room

First picture and below. I love colonial homes but they are very traditional so you have more rooms. I like openness but I also like the classic style of rooms it is more cozy. All the rooms are good size so it does not feel small. This room is one of my least favorites at the present time. My parents are coming Friday to help. My dad and Rob are going to dry wall just the first rock wall. To many rocks and to rustic. This room is going to look completely different in a few more days!! I put furniture to cover the wall that is covered from top to the bottom with rocks. To many rocks to bad we don't have high ceilings we could climb it. I am going with a beach look in this room and through most of the house.

Can't wait to paint these beams!!

Kitchen is going to be our first big renovation. I am meeting with people this week to get ideas and prices. Lots of windows and I love them but they limit options with placement of appliances.

See that wall, can't wait to say bye bye!! That alone will make the biggest difference in the house. It will brighten it up and make if feel airy. I like a big kitchen that is open that is one area that I don't want cozy!! Can't wait to bring in white!!

This is the living room where I am sitting now. We are going to use this room as a library/office. We all love to read so it works out really nice to just sit and read. This room is bright and pretty. I do want to change the paint and I will blog about that very soon.

I added a little table. This table was a craiglist find couple yrs ago. It is so heavy and a true antique. It used to be really tall but yesterday I caught 4" off of the legs and now I can use it. Not sure if I am going to keep this look just playing around with furniture placement.

I love this window it is in the kitchen, can't wait to get some decorating ideas flowing. I have had a lot on my mind can't wait till ideas come. I haven't been real creative lately. Would you paint the wood white? I am going with white cabinets but some of the doors might look nice stained darker. Not sure yet?

Before

one project done!!

After

Light fixture from Ballard Designs. Crystals were from a $4 ornament from Hobby Lobby. I was not going to spend $20 a crystal plus $20 a lampshade. I bought those at Lowe's. I love this light fixture. Can't wait to paint the dark crown molding and paint the kitchen!

More to come...
