I recently read the book The Christian Atheist and really enjoyed it. So much to think about and so humbling. I started listening to Craig a few weeks after I found him on iTunes. You can download these free Podcast on your Ipod, Phone, or listen online. I just wanted to pass this link along. Craig is so talented in sharing Christ in a unconventional but very biblical way. He speaks in a way that shows love, compassion and honest concern for the people of this world. He is very funny, real, and down to earth. Click the link at the bottom and at the top click watch. There are tons of different series on multiple topics that hit home. Some of the sermons I have listened to have really spoke to me and have been life changing. Good Stuff!!He is similar to Andy Stanly who I also really like. Check it out friends!!

Easy Pottery Barn Copycat Idea

I saw this wreath below last year at Pottery Barn. It is beautiful but not worth the cost. I think it was over $70. I saw a few Bloggers last year that made the copycat so I joined in. This was super easy. All you need is a green wreath I bought mine at Hobby Lobby for $7. I already had red and silver bulbs bought at Target on Clearance last year. You use floral wire to go through the hole of the bulbs and just attach to the back of the wreath. The wreath cost me under $10 and I really like it. It stands out on my black front door.
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We went to Cleveland to be with family and Friday we put up all the decorations. Sat morning Drew got sick (really sick) and thankfully it only lasted 24 hrs. Since all my kids have had some bug the last week or so we should be in good shape for a while.
Can't wait to post some decorating pictures!! I had a lot of fun this year! My tree looks similar every year but I always do something a little different.

Fall pictures of the kids

I took these a few weeks ago. Drew really needed a hair cut but the leaves were really pretty and I didn't want to miss it. They are sure growing up. What personalities they all have! I have some family pictures to post too. Using the timer was like a Funniest Home Videos clip. Since I was the photographer (I work cheap). I set up the tri-pod and had to run into the pictures. The kids were arguing and crabby, but when I said smile, they smiled.

The Hallway

I just got done reading the book the Christian Atheist. It was a a good book that convicts you about saying your a christian but living like you don't believe in Him. I think everything he wrote about I have struggled with time to time. One of the things that I really liked was the chapter he wrote about life not being fair. Isn't that the truth! He went on to talk about how God isn't fair because if He was we would deserve hell. But He loved us so much that He sent His perfect son to take our sins upon Him. He didn't deserve it and He paid our price in full.
Our pastor this week made a statement about our lives being like hallways. Our hallways have pictures on both sides. One side is the pictures of the highs in your life. Like your wedding day, your graduation, your children being born and then there is the other side. That side is the painful side that we don't like to remember. On that side is our most painful moments and experiences. When I look back at some of the painful moments in my life I thank God now for them. The hardships just made me closer to Him. Although I don't like them and wouldn't ask for more your pain can be your best ministry to help others. Time and time again I have seen how God has used mine. God does not waste pain! He has a purpose that does not seem fair to us but looking back I can see how God can use our pains to mold us. Pains are often not used because people are afraid to show they have not had a perfect life or feel they might be judged. I can see why people may feel that way but so many of us are missing out by not using it. Being real and authentic is one of our best tools as believers to non believers. It is a process that will never end God is always stretching us through good and bad and making us more like him. I have gained wisdom through life and praise God in the good times and the bad times. Not always easy in the moment but I pray that I don't waste pain and use it to help others to see Christ.
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
God is so good to us! One day many things will make sense but having this hope in Romans and seeing God work through others is convicting of His love. I like to be reminded that our time here on earth is short but our impact can be great in pointing others to the cross. My prayer is for us to use our experiences to be Jesus's hands and feet and to love mercifully on others in pain or joy. It is a joke to think that some people or Christians are perfect or have it all together. Daily I am humbled to be more like Him to love others with no strings attached. To be real with others and for God to give me His eyes to see.
"Be kinder then necessary because most people you meet are going through some battle"
One of my favorite songs it is on my playlist below at the bottom of my blog. You can click it.. here are the words
Brandon Heath
Give Me Your Eyes
Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight

Touched down on the cold black tar
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock
Of confusion and chaos

All those people going somewhere
Why have i never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so i can see
Everything that i keep missing
Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the one's forgotten
Give me your eyes so i can see
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Step out on a busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what's underneath

There's a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife
He's out of work he's buying time

All those people going somewhere
Why have i never cared?

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so i can see
Everything that i keep missing
Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach?
Give me your heart for the one's forgotten
Give me your eyes so i can see
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

I've been there a million times
A couple of million eyes just moving past me by
I swear i never thought that i was wrong

Well i want a second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way you see the people all alone

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so i can see
Everything that i keep missing
Give me your love for humanity

Give me your arms for the broken hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me your heart for the one's forgotten
Give me your eyes so i can see

A cheap table and new shelves

I have another table in here!! I bought one that just never looked right in the summer off of Craigslist. I re-sold the table and bought this table at the Goodwill for $20. It has bubbled watermarks on the top but I really liked the table. I painted the table a fresh coat of black and that helped a little. I don't like real formal stuff so it works and actually looks rustic. The chairs are from the other table and the covers are from Ballard Designs. Hate me but I got all the covers for $10 at a thrift store! I love Ballard's so I was thrilled to get them for so cheap. They don't fit the chairs perfect but like the popular Nesting Place Blog says it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
There are a lot of chairs in this room! It doesn't look so bad when the chair by the tree is moved back over. I started to decorate for Christmas (I haven't turned anything on yet, not till after Thanksgiving) I love my shelves on my wall. What an adventure that was finding four matching shelves. I found two at Marshall's along with the neat neat dishes. Then I decided that two more would look great. Then I found one at Home Goods. We looked all over Columbus for another one and couldn't find another shelf. Rob found a black one on a business trip so that was great. I just had to paint them all to match. He hung them up this weekend for me and I love the way it looks. Finally this room is looking the way I want. I wish I had tons more molding and crown molding but this is good for now. Hope you enjoyed looking a my new dining room on the cheap (:

Love and memories

These houses!! I seriously love to look at houses. I love all of these Christmas looks. I have been down in the basement crawl space which is so creepy. It is clean but feels weird. I think I have seen to many scary movies. It is the kind of crawl space with the stones. I always think of that Kevin Bacon Movie Stir Of Echos. You can laugh now but if you have seen the movie you know what I mean. I can't believe how much stuff I have down there. It is nothing like the show Hoarders but I do have a lot of garland, trees, and ornaments. I am deciding how to decorate this year which is always fun.

Every year Christmas gets better. The memories are so special. I was thinking the other day I thank God for memories. Can you imagine if we didn't have memories? I have so many and can still remember smells, the ways my kids looked at certain times and fun moments we have had. My mom always told me to write stuff down and take pictures because you think you will remember everything but you won't. She is right, which is sad but I do have lots memories, pictures and feelings with my family. Lately it has dawned on me that my little family that started 8yrs has grown and the kids in it haven't stopped growing. I look at pictures from just a year ago and my kids are looking older. I am so glad they are becoming little people of their own but I wish I could have each of them at about 6mo old for a just one more day..Makes me sad. Just to hold a Little Jaden, Little Drew and Little Lauren as a baby. God is so good he gives us grand kids. I am not old yet but I often think about holding my grand kids one day and seeing my children through their faces. Such a gift!! To be able to enjoy it all over again but not have all the pressures of being parents. Such an important job to be parents!! Just that thought alone is overwhelming of trying your best to be what your kids need. I want to enjoy each moment of my kids even when I feel like pulling my hair out and leaving the house. One day they will all be gone and I will just have the memories, thank you God for memories. Oh and my great husband!! I forgot about him. No seriously that is a whole other post about having a person by your side that loves you no matter what. I didn't mean to get all sentimental but in life it is so easy to get wrapped up in non important things that the world has you believing is. All you have to do is look at your children, and those you love and it grounds you. I thank God for his never ending love for all of us and the blessings He gives.

Have a great weekend!

Cute Shoes

Aren't these the cutest little shoes? I bought them for her when we were at Disney. I am taking a picture of them because she is so rough on shoes. The sequence is already coming off on the first layer. I wish they had these in my size. Dressing a girl is so fun!
It is amazing how girls need so many more shoes then boys. Lauren has different shoes to match different outfits where as my boys have tennis shoes and they seem to work with everything.
I hope these last a month or so, lol. At least I have a picture of these darling things!

Buffet re-do and some ramblings..

This used to be plain brown and I have had it sitting in my kitchen for a couple years. I think it is good to change things up if you don't love a piece or your style changes a bit. No use on having an okay when you could have a change that you might love. So be daring!! Get out the paint. This is a antique from the 20's but I don't buy antiques for value. I buy them because they are good quality, have character and are a great value. This pretty thing has such neat details and the wood didn't show it off. So I got out my creamy white paint and simply painted 2-3 layers of paint. I did not prime or sand. I left the top original which is one of my favorite looks lately. If you do this technique just make sure you tape off the top so you don't get any paint on it. I also bought new hardware at Hobby Lobby and sanded the sides a bit. I really like the results. I am feeling creative again and have some really good ideas for Christmas brewing up. The Ballard Catalog for November is awesome!! I really like decorating and painting if you haven't figured that out yet (: I was thinking the other day hobby wise this is where my biggest passion is. I still like taking pictures but have lost some passion for it. It seems like everyone is taking pictures these days and with the use of Photo shop it has kind of made the creative part burn out for me. I still enjoy taking pictures of my kids but am really focusing on home projects and the art of being a homemaker.

Isn't this chair awesome? It is old and just needed to be stained. My friend and fellow blogger Polly
sold it to me at her yard sale for super cheap. Let me tell you her yard sale was awesome!! It was more like a girls night out shopping at a boutique. She was so kind to invite me to the pre-sale. I got some really neat things. Check out her blog her house is to die for!! I want to do a whole blog on it someday. I have never met someone with such a creative mind.
Thanks Polly again!
I decided to tackle cleaning my closet today. Talk about a never ending project. I enjoy organizing but can't keep organized so I have to re-organize to get organized, lol.. I have what I call The Standard Mom Uniform. Almost all my clothes look similar and are the same colors. Black, Tan, White,Black, Tan, White...Makes it easy to pick out clothes in the morning. I do have some fun colors mixed in but love my uniform colors. So to all the Mom uniform lovers out there please tell me I am not alone.
